Curiosity...
Expectations are not always helpful. If we base our lives on expectations of how things outside of us ‘should’ be, we often end up disappointed, disillusioned or worse. This is because it is impossible to control everything on the outside and when we have expectations, we are essentially trying to control an outcome. We might have control over some things, like what time we start work, what we eat or whether or not we go for a walk, but we do not have control over other events, such as the weather and, more importantly, other people. People can be unreliable because they are human, just like you.
Alternatively, if we expect things to turn out badly, anticipating the worst, we may cause ourselves a lot of unnecessary stress and worry.
Try trading expectation with curiosity. What will happen today? Some anticipation of how things might turn out is useful, but being open to different possibilities allows flexibility, and lessening our expectations can lessen disappointment (or stress), whilst still allowing for positive emotions, perhaps excitement, surprise or contentment to arise.
