Words of Magic

“Words are, in my not-so-humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic. Capable of both inflicting injury, and remedying it.”

― J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Words have power, and we can utilise that to help ourselves.

Whether we use words that have been adopted from a significant other, such as a care giver, or they are introjects from society, we can become aware of them and we have the ability to change them.

The words we use towards ourselves, internally, have more impact that we may realise.  The famous Henry Ford quote highlights this, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right”.

An athlete at the start of a race will not set him or herself up well if she tells herself that she will fail.  If she believes she will succeed, she will fare much better.

How to you speak to yourself?  Are you harsh?  Cruel even?  Would you speak to someone you loved in that way?  If not, then see if you can change your words to something kinder, and more empowering.

Discernment with others is also helpful.  If we have something we would like to say that might be challenging for another to hear, if choose the right words, we can be authentic and truthful with another without risking them hurt.

Words can empower ourselves, empower another, make us feel wanted and loved, make another feel wanted and loved.  They can help someone visualise your world, or another world.  They can allow you to explore new concepts and allow you or another to be fully seen and heard.  This is true magic.
