Yoga one-to-one
How does yoga work?
Yoga is most often associated with a movement practice, but encompasses many elements other than asana (postures) including breathwork and meditation, grounded in a philosophy encouraging ways of being that promote an improved relationship with yourself, others and the world.
Yoga asana practice builds core and limb strength with flexibility, balance and a wide range of movement. As children we naturally move in a multitude of ways and as we grow older we get into habitual, or functionally adaptive ways of moving and being to manage in our day to day lives. Moving the body in exploratory new ways and in challenging movements encourages exploration of our bodies and minds.
Yoga practice encourages introspection, that is, internal body awareness or felt-sense, allowing development of mind-body awareness. In a way yoga is a mirror, reflecting where you are, allowing insight to the Self and change.
Use of yogic breathing techniques allows development of breath control whether in stillness or whilst moving and holding postures. This can improve nervous system regulation, activating the parasympathetic nervous system and enabling a more relaxed state in the body and mind.
Yoga for growth
I offer one-to-one yoga classes, or yoga combined with therapy, to enable development of interoception and understanding of the mind-body-spirit connection.
One-to-one classes allow me to create a flow of movement, breathing and meditation practice specific to you. I provide recommendations for posture alternatives and assits when required.
